With an APS-C size sensor, this would translate to approximately 29-70mm focal length for lenses using a standard 35mm-sized sensor. While it would be great to see a Canon mirrorless camera arrive sooner than later, this lens patent doesn't mean anything is necessarily imminent — it looks like this patent was filed back in 2010, so it seems Canon has been working on this for some time.
