Android users have been patiently waiting for a version of the Sky Go streaming television app to be released since the iOS version debuted last July, and the wait is finally at an end — for owners of a few select phones. The app allows Sky TV customers in the UK to watch 22 channels of streaming television over 3G or Wi-Fi, including Sky Sports channels, all 11 Sky Movies channels, and the Sky Atlantic, Living, and News channels. Unfortunately the app only works on a limited number of HTC and Samsung smartphones, which Sky attributes to the "considerable time" it takes to tailor an app for each distinct Android device. Unlike the iOS version, the Android app also doesn't currently support Sky's on-demand movie service. Still, the release itself is a huge step in the right direction, so if you're an owner of one of the phones listed below, head on over to the Android Market to check it out.

Sky Go for Android currently supports the following devices:

  • HTC Desire
  • HTC Desire S
  • HTC Desire HD
  • HTC Incredible
  • HTC Sensation
  • Samsung Galaxy S
  • Samsung Galaxy S II
