The Live ID Mess!!!!!!!!
Microsoft recently posted a video and blogpost saying that they don't us how to run our business, unlike what Google does with Google Apps! I tend to agree with their claim only with respect to the apps!
But with this live ID mess, they are trying to tell me how to live!
I am professional in mobile industry and have been changing countries every few years. Recently took a plunge in the Windows Phone and entered the mythical world of live IDs and moronic logic applied by someone really really stupid. It seems to be made by an accountant, not even a coder!
Let me explain the issues -
According to microsoft, I change the country - I should change credit cards and use only the new credit card from my new country.
According to Microsoft, the only language they speak in India is Hindi, In Sweden its Swedish, and so on and so...
According to Microsoft, I should have one email ID per country I live in and one Zune tag per country I live in.
According to Microsoft, I should not cross match zune tags and live iDs i.e. I cannot close one without closing the other.
In otherwords, If I am hotmail user, I should inform everyone in contact list - hey I changed country and so Microsoft made me change my email ID as well.
The phone can have english language everywhere except for the category names in marketplace!!!! That will be defined my country of my zune tag. (not email ID).
Wow!!!! what a moronic mess is this!!
I have changed 5 countries in last 10 years and plan to do the same over next 10 years. I have had gmail one ID and one apple ID for all of those years. I dont have any problems changing countries, mixing and matching languages of my choice and using credit cards issued in one country in another country. I can use may be Swedish App Store (Apple) with my China credit card, so problems as long as card number and billing address match. But microsoft dictates that you cannot use any other card than one which has billing address in Sweden if you are using Swedish marketplace!!! Moronic!!!!!
Why Why Why is then microsoft hell bent on making my life miserable with this Live ID mess!!!!
With the recent showing of skydrive integration to Win8, this live ID mess is going to get unbelievable for nomads like me.
Just search for live ID and country and you will see microsoft expects everyone one in France to speak only French and so on... , there are no expats living there right?
