Eye candy packages
Gnu/ Linux is stunning in its designs of distro's but how does one make them look absolutely amazing?
I have read:
OMGUbuntu.co.uk
Techdrivein.com
and they have designs, themes and programs and conky's.
So I ask you Verge, How have you made your workspace jaw dropping?
Docks, Conky's, gtk themes or maybe Unity/ Gnome3?
This is a post your workspace thread, but also how you got to your desktop as it is.
My desktop: Ubuntu 11.4 Classic Ubuntu workspace.
1 Installed AWN dock from the software center
2 removed bottom taskbar
3 added dockbar:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dockbar-main/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install dockbarx
sudo apt-get install dockbarx-themes-extra
4 Also go to the software center and install:
'dockbar, an icon based taskbar (experimental)'
because there are 2 experimental, check below to see if it reads:
awn-applet-dockbar
Launch the awn awn
right click awn, then select Dock preferences.
add a new panel to the side (right)
right click your new awn dock, then select Dock preferences.
Select the applets tab
scroll down the applets and find dockbar applet
double click and it will be added to the bar bellow showing that you have added that applet.
the top task bar right click and select preferences
deselect the extend bar tickbox
find a wallpaper and apply it.
click themes and find one that complements your wallpaper
click apply
Tada! my desktop.
