Earlier this month Samsung confirmed that it wouldn't be launching the Galaxy S III at Mobile World Congress 2012, but now we have a new date to look towards: March 22nd. According to Frandroid, that's the day Samsung will be holding a media event in France, and while there's no mention of what will be unveiled, the Galaxy S II successor should certainly be in the running — particularly given recent rumors that the device will be launching "before summer." If earlier leaks prove accurate, the new phone will feature a 4.6-inch 720p Super AMOLED Plus display, a 1.8GHz dual-core Exynos processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 12-megapixel camera.

Fleshing things out a bit further is a recent piece from ETnews, which also claims an AMOLED display while reporting that Samsung has been focusing on shrinking the size of the components used in its devices — allowing it to bring the S III in at a thickness of just 7mm (0.28 inches). By way of comparison, the Galaxy S II is 0.33 inches thick, while the iPhone 4S comes in at 0.37 inches. It's all still rumors at the moment, but it's looking like the Galaxy S III will be an enticing new phone — and we may be hearing about it sooner rather than later.
