Sony has confirmed that there will be no UMD Passport program for the PlayStation Vita when it launches in North America later this month. The system supports digital PSP games, but drops the UMD drive slot; in Japan, UMD Passport allows owners of retail PSP titles to register their discs online for a discounted download. However, the program was seriously lacking in publisher support — we noted in our Vita review that not a single one of the UMDs we owned was covered — so it's not a big surprise that it won't be making it to a region with such comparatively low sales of PSP software. Our advice? Keep your PSP around with the games you bought for it, or keep watching the PlayStation Store for fire sales.
