Kickstarter and Fan funded games

There's been a couple of high profile fan-funded games on Kickstarter recently.

I think, Its a smart move with lods of benefits, it cuts out the publishers meaning we can get games that aren't always deemed "popular", costs are paid for there and then, and if the public doesn't want it... then it aint gonna happen.

Of course there is drawbacks, for example a genre might have fewer interested people with no where near enough money to pool to get a game going.

But I'm curious as to what other people think about this, and what games or franchises you might like to see revived or updated? I'm hoping that these cases set precedent, and more productions follow the fan funded model.

p.s - I wanna see some new Wing Commanders, Come On!
