That's it, I'm moving....
I am now at the end of my tether.
I have been an absolutely resolute stubborn blinkers on Google/Android fan, take me back 12 or 18 months ago and i wouldn't believe I would be in the position I find myself in, after two top of the range android phones (HTC Desire & Nexus S) over my previous two contracts, and two Android Tablets, the original Galaxy Tab & the Galaxy Tab 10.1, i am moving myself across that metaphorical border to the state of Apple.
I want to explain the situation (Which is purely my personal opinon, i am not looking to cause arguments), and then hopefully get some advice from people who have more experience in apple products and the ecosystem, and the best way to utilize it.
I have been effectively waiting a long wait for a single media ecosystem with android, my computing life is mainly based around media, movies, music, ebooks, ecomics, Yes google have been making efforts to get this togther but unfortunately for me its just not there and I am fed up of waiting, all i want is a single shop to get it all, and in the UK, Google Music just doesn't exist, i am aware that i can use an Fake IP address to use Google Music to upload and stream music, but thats just not what i want, I want it to be easy. The idea that i have to go to three or four different media retailers for my music movies and books is just annoying, I should add I do not mind paying for content expecially if its good quality. (Oh i am taking nothing away from the actual OS, Especially ICS, I think that its very good, but i need that ecosystem)
So...
A few days ago i went to the Apple store in Glasgow, my first visit to said store, i was always judging this store based on troll based comments i had seen online, and unfortunately i judged a book by its non existent cover. However it was not what i thought it would be in the slightest, the staff were friendly and definitely knew what they were talking about, unlike generic electrical good stores who stock android tablets. I had a MacBook Pro with OS X Lion explained to me, the 3rd Gen Ipad demoed and also Apple TV shown to me and how airplay works with the devices, i was sold.
The fluidity and ease of joining everything together was everything that i was looking for, i was just being stubborn in the past, now i am not a tech noob by any stretch of the imagination, but why couldn't things just be this easy with android and windows, if it was i would gladly stay...but its not....so I'm off, i like to think i have given android enough time to get its act together.
So iOS and Mac Users, what would be the best way to utilise an Ipad, MacBook Pro and Apple Tv (Iphone to come later most likely wait till the iPhone 5)... I have an extensive TV Show collection (AVI Format) 80GB of music (mp3 format) and a very large movie collection (.avi, .mp4 and .MKV), i understand i will have to convert to play through Apple TV, but what is the best way to do this?
Should I consider a single large external hard drive? currently i have a 2TB & 1TB Desktop hard drives plus a 500gb portable Hard drive for storage but the Mac will Have a 750 GB hard drive so that will help. And i would love a wireless media network if anyone has any added ideas for that
Also any App suggestions or ideas would be more than welcome.
