Following the news that DVD-only Netflix subscribers now only have access to part of the company's catalog, the service has now purchased the domain DVD.com, which sends users to the new dvd.netflix.com sub section. Netflix confirmed the purchase to Domain Name Wire, explaining that "Netflix cares about keeping DVD healthy, and this is just one small investment in keeping DVD healthy." Terms of the purchase were not disclosed — though DVD.com is certainly a better domain than the short-lived Qwikster.

Update: Netflix has followed up with All Things D saying that it has no plans to separate its DVD and streaming businesses, but instead purchased the domain for defensive reasons.
