Xbox Lite = All In One Entertainment/Apple TV Killer?
Apple has been trying to rule the living room with Apple TV. It hasn't been the major success as other products like the iPad and iPhone but it does fairly well.
I've always said that Microsoft is actually leading the way in the living room with the Xbox. I even ditched my cable and went full Xbox. I watch Netflix, Hulu Plus, Crackle and ESPN all on the xbox and when I watched to play a game, I just do it.
Now, a rumor about the Xbox Lite has been floating around.
Basically, Microsoft will announced a new Xbox at E3 this year and it might not have a disc drive and will be able to download Xbox Arcade games. It will also be ARM based. It will still have apps like Netlix and HBO Go.
The question is: Doesn't this make the Apple TV look old and defeated? You can still have apps AND the ability to play games. Apple TV does Mirroring from the iPad but most say the controller is the best for games.
This is all rumour for now but the source (MSNerd) who leaked the info has a pretty good record.
I think it's a plausible concept with an Apple TV like Xbox. Whether Microsoft goes through with this is another story. We'll see
