Why Won't You Let Me Have Nice Things?
There was mention of a Windows Phone Vergecast bingo app on the latest podcast. Upon hearing about it I excitedly searched for it in the Marketplace on my phone but my search came up empty. I then searched through Zune but there was nothing. I finally just Googled it and found a link to the app in the Marketplace and figured I was all set.
But I was wrong. So terribly wrong.
The app in question isn't available in the Swedish Marketplace. I'm restricted from installing it.
I'm not talking about an app with complicated rights issues like a Netflix app (I don't think that's available but I haven't really looked since the service isn't) or even a Kindle app (which I can only find in Zune but there's no button or link to install it). It's a free novelty bingo app.
I mean, I guess it makes sense that it's not available since it's podcast bingo and the function to download podcasts to the phone isn't available either. It's for my own safety, really. My non-American ears might explode if they could listen to fresh podcasts on the go. My Scandinavian, socialist, mind just can't handle that kind of raw freedom.
What's the point of all these restrictions? You know, other than to frustrate users for the sadistic pleasure of Microsoft executives.
