Android: So simple my mother could use it?
Okay, so it's that time again. The phone that has lasted my mother a good 6 years has given up the ghost, and she wants an upgrade.
Ever since I bought an LG Optimus 7 (a Windows Phone), she's been pining for a smartphone - but on a budget. As a result, Android is the default choice - probably Gingerbread.
Now my Windows Phone is simple and easy to get used to, but is Android - and if so, what skin would be the optimal? Would it be usable for someone who doesn't know what an OS or a browser is? And finally, is it even worth looking at a cheap Android? I've heard (probably exaggerated) horror stories of people whose Android phones become almost unusable within a couple months, constantly crashing and rapidly depleting battery life.
Disclaimer: I'm not trying to start a flame war, and I'll ignore anyone who posts with such an intention. I'd just like to know whether it's worth getting an Android smartphone on a budget, or whether a dumb phone would be better.
