Is 13" MBP worth it?
Hello. I'd like to pick up a 13" MBA. I have a pretty new Alienware M14x that I was planning on selling to fund the purchase. Background out of the way, I've posted the M14x on craigslist, and received several offers of trades for 2010 13" MBP models (both with the high end Core 2 Duo from then - 2.66 GHz if I remember correctly). First, what do you guys think?
Second, if I were to sell the M14x for about $1000, it would cover most of the cost of the MBA (especially a refurb). That was my asking price on craigslist, but the closest I got was an offer of $950 that I accepted, then the guy never emailed again (go figure...).
I looked on eBay, and found that the M14x (when selling) has been going for $900-$1000. The MBP has been going for $700-900 (generally around $800). So I'd be losing money, but would I be happy enough with the MBP?
To answer the last question, my general use is mostly basic stuff, email, web, the kind of things I do primarily on my iPad. The reason I want a MBA is to get back into developing on iOS. I do have an older 15" MBP (2007 model with 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, pre-unibody), but that is mainly my wife's machine now. Also, the MBA is much more portable, and I would love to get one so I could take it with me more places. The 13" MBP would be pretty decent for that as well, which is why I'm kind of okay with the trade.
