Unimpressed with Google Drive?
Anyone else just a little bit let down by Google Drive? (Quick background: I primarily consider myself a Dropbox user, but also have dabbled with MS SkyDrive. I have used Dropbox daily on my 2 laptops plus my HTC Rezound).
My quick complaints:
- There doesn't seem to be integration with the Google+ app and Drive. For instance, I have G+ set to auto-upload my photos to G+. It would be nice to do that with Drive instead, or to have the photos be a part of both "ecosystems". Dropbox does have this setting (auto-uploading photos), and I find this makes it easier to manage my photos. A photo taken on my phone shows up on my laptop within a minute.
- Creating public links is a hassle: In Dropbox, you can copy a file to the public folder, right-click and "Get Link". With Drive, you have to use the web interface to create a link, and it's a 4 step process. You can't create links on the Android App or Windows Explorer plugin.
- Much like SkyDrive, it creates a weird virtual folder under your C:\Users\<user name> folder. Dropbox lets me pick where to place my sync'ing folder.
I will say that the mobile app (which is really just a revamped version of Google Docs) is pretty great, especially offline access. I don't have an Android tablet, but I'd be curious to hear what others say about working with it for editing Docs, etc.
Just my 2 cents.
