Moving Advice: Best Way to Ship My iMac.

So this is a pretty simple question:

I'm about to move from Portland to New York and I'm a little paranoid about how to get my 27" iMac there. I still have all the shipping material it came in, is that good enough to ship it in, are there any precautions I should take. Should I take it on my flight and just check it?

Anyone who's been in my position, what did you do?
