Andy Ihnatko's take on Windows Phone for the Chicago Sun Times
What must I conclude about Windows Phone? When we jettison any childish and utterly useless interest in who’s selling how many units, and how many apps are in which store, and where this OS was after two years relative to this other one, I’m left with the conclusion that Windows Phone is about as good as Android or iOS.
Can Windows Phone - and Nokia Lumia 900 - take on iPhone, Android?
I'm a little reticent to add to the alarming tide of posts on the fallout of the Lumia 900 review and 'Is Windows phone any good debates?', but I thought this article was worth highlighting. It's a very balanced and interesting read that doesn't shy away from the issues with Windows Phone but also spends time explaining its positives which is something that was sadly lacking from Josh's detailed focus on his troubles with the Lumia 900. So perhaps it puts Josh's complaints in a broader perspective.
It doesn't mean one or the other is correct by the way but it does highlight that Windows Phone can in fact be the right OS for some people. So it'd be a shame if anyone was put off trying it out because of negative reviews. Of course whether there's enough of those people it's the right approach for to see it survive in the long run is another debate.
Me I love its approach, but I want to see it evolve and get better and the ecosystem become more competitive. Fingers crossed eh?
