So I just listened to this week's podcast
So I just listened to this week's podcast and I commend Josh for spending an hour and a half depending his review but I feel there are holes in his logic.
I respect his opinion but find it odd when he talk's about how great ICS is but last I checked it's only on 2.9% of android phones. Yet Android phones running 2.3 have gotten higher scores Josh had had some valid points in his review but giving the OS a score of 5 says to the average (non techie) shopper the WP7 is a horrible OS.
Josh say he wrote the review for a broader audience but I don't believe that is the case. I think his review was presented from the power user's perspective. I broad would be along the lines of what Joanna Stern of CNN did. The average user isn't worried about ppi or cores. The average user wants;
- Games (which could and should be better on wp7)
- Easy Social Neworking (the people hub does a really good job at this)
- Email (Email in wp7 is simply Stellar)
- Music Player (Zune really is best in class when it comes to stock mobile music players)
- A good web browser (ie9 needs work but is no were near as bad as josh makes it out to be)
I could go on but I won't except to say that Josh says he focused so heavily on his gripes (many of which are were valid) because Mango had already been covered.But I'd would argue the so have his gripes. So if he feels the the negatives deserve such detail then so should the positives. That is why his review came off as biased to so (or should I say so many). Many others who reviewed it this dual approach equally highlighting both wp7's trump's and shortcomings.
FYI. WP7 has not been around for 2 years it was released (in the US 11/8/2010) 17 month ago (mango by the way was only released to the public 6 months ago) and MSFT (just like Apple) is on a yearly update update schedule.
I'd also like to add that Josh says he wanted to love this phone but he knew all along it was coming with wp7.5 (which he is clearly not in love with) so how could he go into this expecting to write anything other than a bad review?
