Panasonic is rolling out wireless charging stations in 90 locations across Japan, the company announced today. The rollout starts this month, and will allow customers at cafés, bars, nail salons, convenience stores, and karaoke boxes charge their compatible cellphones and tablets. The stations adhere to the Wireless Power Consortium’s Qi standard, and use Panasonic’s own moving coil system, which detects where on the charging pad the device is placed, and positions the charging coil accordingly. Trying to find a café in Tokyo with an accessible outlet is a constant source of frustration, so this is great news for owners of compatible devices like Panasonic’s upcoming Eluga V P–06D. But don’t worry, the company has traditional chargers covered too: even if you don't have a Qi-enabled device, you’ll soon be able to use one of Panasonic’s compatible battery packs to grab some juice for the road.
