Cricket has just become the first prepaid carrier to offer the iPhone — as of June 22nd, customers will be able to purchase the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 along with a no-contract prepaid plan that offers unlimited voice, text, and data for $55 per month. The 16GB iPhone 4S will sell for $499.99, while the 8GB iPhone 4 will cost $399.99 — while expensive, that's still significantly less than the $649 and $549 Apple charges for unlocked devices on its site. Of course, these CDMA devices won't be easily transferred to another carrier. If you're interested, you'll need to head over to your local Cricket retailer, or order over the phone, as it seems the company won't initially sell the iPhone online. While plenty of smaller carriers have started offering the iPhone in the last few months, Cricket marks the first pure prepaid carrier for the device in the US. While the device entry price may be high, the monthly plan cost is a pretty great deal, provided you get decent Cricket coverage.
