The Avengers would be a huge movie by anyone's standards, being as it is a summer blockbuster that combines characters from the last five years of Marvel moviemaking and more, but it's by far the biggest of Joss Whedon's career. The writer/director is the subject of a great profile in GQ which tracks his slow but steady rise through the world of cult film and TV, from getting written out of the Speed credits to the success of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, along with events like the cancelation of Firefly and his rejected pitch for a Batman reboot.
