Vizio vs Apple: The spec to price-point comparison

Pricing out the CN15-A2 against the comparable Macbook Pro is proof positive of Vizio's disruptive power. For a long time you could price out a comparable Windows PC against a Mac and see the "Apple Tax" in spades. Of course, doing this, you would also have to make concessions on design, usability and other BS. Not so with the Vizio (though we should wait for reviews to determine this completely).

Here they are:

CN15-A2
Core i7-3610QM @ 2.3GHz
8GB 1600MHz RAM
LED 1920x1080 15.6” Display
NVIDIA GT 640M LE Graphics with 1GB
1TB HDD with 32GB SSD (for boost only)
PRICE: $1199

Macbook Pro
Core i7 @ 2.3GHz
8GB 1600MHz RAM
LED 1440x900 15.4” Display
NVIDIA GT 650M Graphics with 512MB
1TB HDD
PRICE: $2099

The choice is clear to me. This gets me thinking Hackintosh for those that just need MacOSX. Regardless, this is a great value.

*Interestingly, the Macbook Pro is not such a good deal if you are in the market for a 15” Apple laptop. For $100 more you can get the retina version with all the same specs except the retina screen and a 256GB SSD instead of the 1TB HDD and 1GB of video memory instead of 512MB. I’m sure this is by design.
