Play this: 'War Game'
Pippin Barr's latest creation, War Game, is a throwback to the handheld LCD games of years gone by. As a lone soldier against a horde of never-ending opponents, you must progress by killing the opposition. When wounded, or after killing enough enemy soldiers, you're submitted to a mandatory psych evaluation. Regardless of your replies to the psychiatrist's questions, you're sent back into battle, and slowly begin to lose your grip on reality.
War Game was supposed simply be "a retro handheld game with a glitch aesthetic," but in the process the designer fell upon what he calls "shadow twins;" the game inadvertently became an allegory for the problems soldiers face in battle. Barr details his attempts to control the shadow twins in his latest blog post.
