HP/Dell/Acer/Asus were looking at you...

I think one of the most glossed over aspects of the Surface announcement is the fact that this should light a fire under the big hardware manufacturers... HP/Dell/Asus/Acer/etc... their business is designing PCs. Microsoft's business is designing software. They should all be ashamed that MS, who has never made an actual PC before, could swoop in and make a product like the Surface. And you know that the x86 version is being partially delayed so the hardware partners can get a jump on it. But hey maybe these guys will get it in gear and come up with something just as fantastic. I for one and totally sold on the x86 version of the Surface and will be happy to wait until December to pick one up... let's hope that between now and then HP or Dell or someone comes up with something as or more compelling. I have an iPad, an HP touchpad (hacked with ICS), and 3 kindle fires... I find myself going back to my HP Elitebook over and over again because there is just something missing from all of my existing tablets. I want to be able to do EVERYTHING from my device... I don't want to start looking at email on my iPad and then need to switch over to my notebook because I have to type a lengthy email or because I have to open Photoshop and tweak and image to email off to someone... or heaven forbid I want to do something with an actual file... It's almost July... December suddenly doesn't feel that far away...
