Could the Asian OEM's rile together to create own ecosystem ?
Obviously they are entirely dependant on western companies ecosystems and respective software. Now serious threats loom with said Ecosystem powerhouses trialling an in-house hardware approach which of course disadvantages the OEM's since the hardware is shoe horned for the software and overall experience is refined.
Could Samsung, LG, Asus, Sony and the like come together and agree on co-developing an OS a long with own digital distribution model and cloud, web services ?
Of course it's too early for that. But I could definitely see this happening if Google really cosy's up to Nexus line and or Moto in addition to Microsoft opening hundred of stores and selling own hardware.
The other alternative for them of course is to lower profit margins and invest more time and money in design, refinement and materials. Acer got the drift and has released absolutely stunning Windows 8 powered devices. I think Asus and Samsung will catch on next and stop releasing the ugly ass plasticky and or tacky looking UltraBooks and just go all industrial like Microsoft showed with surface otherwise nobody would buy their shit either way.
Design examples:
Beautiful industrial design.
Disgusting and tacky design with huge ugly logo, stickers, kitchen sink finish lid and cheap feel.
