Confirmed: LG D1L is the Optimus LTE 2
Remember that D1L codename we heard floating about associated with an LG smartphone that was aimed to do battle with Samsung's Galaxy S III? Well, today we've confirmed directly with LG that it belongs to the recently launched LG Optimus LTE 2. Available now in Korea, the LTE 2 does indeed deliver the 4.7-inch screen size and dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor that'd been rumored with respect to the D1L, plus it matches the Galaxy S III in having an outsized 2,150mAh battery.
When we got to play with the Optimus LTE 2 out in Korea, we liked the new Optimus UI 3.0 atop Android 4.0, which is much more restrained and generally slicker than LG's previous efforts. Unlike the sluggish L-Style L7, it also ran fluidly on the LTE 2, inviting the question of just why the company felt the need to name what's evidently a very competitive device in such a tame, uninspiring fashion. Hell, the original D1L codename has more menace and appeal than yet another Optimus. Either way, now we can stop wondering where that reputed handset has gone: it's already on the market!
