Thoughts of a Lumia 900 user
Apparently some people are mad that their current gen WP, mostly Lumia 900 and Titan 2 will not get the WP8 update. As it happens that I am a Lumia 900 user. But I am not mad! Why?
Because I upgraded after 22months. Yes that long. I knew that WP8 would be released later this year. So I made a calculated decision. I could either wait until Q4 and get a WP8 device and suffer hell for the time period, or I could get the Lumia now, escape the hell my Android device was showing me, and be upgrade eligible for the next refresh of Windows Phone. I chose the latter.
I also knew that Microsoft is a company with a history of backward compatibility and upgradability. There is video in youtube showing a computer upgrading from Windows 3.1 to all the way to Windows 7. Granted the situation in Mobile space is different. But Microsoft does not generally abandon their customers if they can help it. I was not sure if the Lumia would get WP8 fully. But the mostly likely possibility was what was announced today. Although I thought it would have the same version number albeit limited functionality, Microsoft chose differently. But version number does not bother me.
I will summarize by saying that buying Lumia 900 was not because I did not think about the future, but I did because I was thinking about up to December 2013.
[All this planing was done in February. Don't ask for proof, I don't have any.]
