Some owners of the HTC Evo 4G LTE on Sprint have been voicing complaints that Google Wallet isn't working on their devices, and Google has confirmed that there is a problem with the phone's ability to use the service. A company spokesperson informed us that the issues — including a notification that Google Wallet isn't certified "in your country or on your device / carrier" — stem from a "software problem" with the NFC component in the phone. We were told that the problem should be fixable with a software update, however, and that Google is currently working with HTC and Sprint in an effort to correct the situation.

It's the latest in a series of problems with Google's mobile payment initiative, that despite vigorous promotion from the search giant has struggled to find broad consumer acceptance — not to mention the increased competition it's facing from the likes of ISIS and Google's own carrier partners. As for HTC Evo 4G LTE owners that simply want their phone to operate as advertised, Google declined to provide us with a specific time frame for the update, but we were told that it would be arriving "soon."
