Bottom line - the Surface is not a reference tablet to light a fire under the OEMs, it's a missile aimed straight at the iPad and an attempt by Microsoft to create a new profit engine. Just as the iPad took Apple from a $50 to $100 billion business, so the Surface and potentially a Surface Phone can take Microsoft to that $100 billion land too. But is too late? Has Apple already achieved complete mental lock-in to such a degree that nobody stands a chance against Apple?
