Apple has just announced that its long-time Senior Vice President of hardware engineering, Bob Mansfield, is retiring. Mansfield, who joined Apple in 1999, will be replaced by Dan Riccio who is currently the Vice President of the iPad division at the company. Mansfield has led hardware for the Mac since 2005, and hardware for the iPhone and iPod since 2010. Apple says the transition will occur over the "next several months."

Comments from CEO Tim Cook in the press release read:

"Bob has been an instrumental part of our executive team, leading the hardware engineering organization and overseeing the team that has delivered dozens of breakthrough products over the years. We are very sad to have him leave and hope he enjoys every day of his retirement."
