Asus has just announced the Taichi laptop / tablet hybrid at Computex 2012 in Taipei. Essentially a laptop with a display on both sides of its lid, the Taichi features either dual 13.3-inch or 11.6-inch IPS HD displays, an Ivy Bridge Core i7 processor, 4GB of RAM, SSD storage, two USB 3.0 ports, Micro HDMI, mini DisplayPort, a 5-megapixel rear camera, and "HD" front-facing camera.

When in laptop mode the Taichi offers a full-sized backlit chiclet keyboard and trackpad. Asus calls it an "incredible fusion of notebook and tablet" that remains "as thin and light as the Zenbook line."The internal and external screens can be set to mirror one another or work independently, allowing two users to run separate applications at the same time.

Its external screen is capable of multitouch and supports stylus input. When closed the Taichi functions like a regular Windows 8 tablet, and you'll find a dedicated Windows 8 button, hardware volume keys, and a rotation lock toggle on the side. The Taichi is also NFC-enabled, and will be able to run Android apps through the BlueStacks app launcher. There's no word on price or availability yet, but we're hoping to find out more about the Taichi in the next couple of days at Computex, so stay tuned.
