Milkmaid concept alerts you when the milk has gone bad
Quirky, a crowd-sourced product design foundry, and GE have worked together to create the Milkmaid, a milk jug that automatically detects when your milk has gone bad or run out and alerts you via its iPhone app. While simple in concept, the execution seems well-considered — there is a pH sensor in the bottom of the milk bottle that detects when too much acid has accumulated, indicating spoilage. Temperature and pressure senors are built into the stand and will alert you when the bottle has been left out too long or when you need to buy more milk. While the prototype shown looks very polished, the Milkmaid is still being designed and tested which means that pricing and availability have yet to be determined. Until we know either, you'll just have to check your milk's status the old fashioned way.
