Dolby Atmos audio platform to debut in these locations, possibly in time for Pixar's 'Brave'
Dolby recently announced its new multidirectional Atmos audio platform for theaters, and while we're still not sure exactly when it'll launch we've at least heard specifics on where. There'll be 20 movie theaters worldwide capable of supporting Atmos during the initial rollout, with further private locations such as Skywalker Sound and various Dolby offices.
The new Dolby Theatre (formerly the Kodak Theatre) in Hollywood is one of the participating screens, and Deadline reports that it's set to show the premiere of Pixar's new movie Brave in Atmos on June 18th. It's not clear if the mix will be ready in time, though — attendees may have to settle for Dolby 3D and 7.1 surround. Still, with a target of this month at least a possibility, it shouldn't be long before Atmos becomes more widely available. Check the full list at Dolby's site to see where your nearest location is.
