Prometheus: A Viral Superstar (Update)

Prometheus is arguably one of the biggest science fiction film to be released this decade. One of its game changers is its use of the Internet. Leading up to the film the team behind Prometheus has released a few videos and a website that expands on the summer blockbuster. These extras aren't clips from the film, but bring new pieces to the story. One of the stand outs was teaming up with TED and filming a futuristic TED talk with character Peter Weyland.

It would appear that their viral use is not over just yet. At the end of the film there is a still with the Weyland Corp Logo and a URL to the website with the date 10.11.12 in bold letters. Going to the URL brings you to a timeline of Weyland Corp events. These events range from a renewable energy to the creation of David(the company's first human like robot). If you scroll down to the bottom, the third to the last entry is dated October of 2012, matching the date in the film. According to the timeline entry, Weyland Corp becomes a legal entity. Clicking the flag at the bottom of the entry brings you to a site

There is a wikipedia entry and a picture of the book Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzche with a quote "What is Great in Man is that He is a Bridge and Not an End". There is also a text box for an Access Code. What this all means is unknown to me at this point, but I am very much looking forward to finding out. Obviously the Prometheus viral escapade is far from finished and I can't wait to see where it goes along with discovering what happens on 10/11/12.

Update: has now updated with a new video of what appears to be Peter Weyland preparing for his TED Talk. Judging by the five hexagons at the top left corner of the page, I can only assume this is the first of five installments leading up to October 11th. More to come...
