It's a bad time to get a new monitor
Technology always move forward, it fact of life
When we buy either a laptop, smartphone, Video Card (GPU) we realized that it will be obsolete next year, or even in the next day, but we still buy it since it was a controlled risk, You still buy a laptop even you know that Intel will launch its next generation processor, You still get a SGSII even when SGSIII is in the corner, but You obviously won't buy a laptop when affordable Quantum Computer is ready to sold tomorrow, since the improvement from the current gen is massive
It’s kinda similar to my problem, I still using an old 4:3 (Yes, really) 1280*1024 monitor that I buy 6 years ago, and I planned to redempt myself by buying a brand new 24" Full HD Screen, before this slide shakes my faith

In Monitor World, this kinda like advancement from Core 2 Duo to a Quantum Computer, the Next generation of Monitor will carry Retina Quality that most importantly, affordable, and available to general masses and this slide is from Intel, one of the world most largest company means a lot; Intel HD4000 don't designed to support 4K Monitor for a random reason and it not Sciene Fiction too, We already got 2048*1536 (Higher than most HDTV) in the iPad 9.7" screen, Apple plan to double (at least according to the rumor) it Laptop resolution,Samsung Note Tablet reported to have 2560*1600 Screen, it will be crazy if we don’t think that those advancement in Display tech won’t come to the PC monitor (Altough may not crazy as the slide suggest)
TLDR; Don't buy current gen monitor, the next generation of monitor could provide up to double of current today monitor resolution, at affordable price
