Some big-time Supreme Court decisions up here in Canada released today regarding royalties paid to labels and artists.

The fair dealing stuff probably isn't of that much interest to Americans, (I've never studied fair use in-depth so I don't know how much interplay the concepts have) but the interpretation of the concept of "private research" to include things such as personal interest and investigation for the purposes of a commercial transaction (ie: 30 second song previews on iTunes) could have repercussions for other Commonwealth countries. The decision against Access Copyright is also pretty interesting for the affirmation of a technology-neutral approach to copyright.
The worst part is that this actually has me excited to take Copyright and IP Law next semester. God I'm a nerd...
