How Much Will Surface Cost? Here's What Verge Readers Said.

These are the results of a survey I posted in the Verge Microsoft Tribe Forum on June 19, 2012 asking what Microsoft's Surface will cost. I hope you enjoy them.

Surface RT 32GB

2% guessed it will be in higher price bracket than the $599 iPad 32GB.

0% guessed it will be in higher price bracket than the $699 iPad 64GB.

14% guessed it will be in higher price bracket than the $599 iPad 32GB.

Surface RT 64GB

100% guessed it will be in higher price bracket than the $599 iPad 32GB.

Summary of Surface Pricing

Just as a reminder, here's the wifi iPad (The new iPad aka iPad3) Pricing:

16GB $499, 32GB $599, 64GB $699.

The Cover Pricing

The Touch Cover is 3mm thick, while the Type Cover is 5mm thick and has laptop like keys.

Touch Cover, the really thin one, only 3mm thick, average guess was $51.06.

Type Cover, has real keys with more travel, 5mm thick, average guess was $67.75.

Will Surface be sold with or without a cover?

This is a tricky one. One the one hand the Touch Cover is such a cool new thing that Microsoft may want to include it with all Surface tablets. But on the other hand they may want to give consumers the choice on which keyboard they get, rather than forcing the Touch Cover on users.

A few notes on the survey.

One regret I have is using price brackets (e.g. $750 to $774.99). I think it would of been more interesting if I let people just choose whatever price they wanted to guess.

60 people participated in the survey, or some answered more than once, I have no way of knowing for sure. The few Responses that chose $0 and the maximum $1600 were disregarded as outliers.
