How is Microsoft achieving record profits in the Ballmer era?
Reading articles like the one in vanity fair and the negative press Microsoft has gotten. One would think they are deep trouble on the verge of collapse. Yet, they keep churning out record quarter after record quarter.

It really is no surprise. Microsoft is still a monopoly. Like Windows 8 or not, it will ship on all new PCs. Office continues to be another one of the cash cows. And by carefully and purposefully breaking backward forward compatibility, they force their customers to continue to buy and upgrade to the newest versions.
Is Microsoft just too big to fail even under mismanagement?
