The 16GB, $249 version of Google's Nexus 7 tablet appears to have sold out of the company's own Play Store — its page on the site currently reads "coming soon" for users in both the US and the UK, offering a form for email notification when the Asus-built device becomes available again. The news comes three days after Google updated customers on expected shipping dates for pre-orders, stating that all US orders for the 16GB Nexus 7 placed before July 11th would ship by July 19th.
While the sell-out may be welcomed as good news by Google marketing execs, it's one more blow to customers eagerly seeking the device — major retailers including GameStop, Staples, and Sam's Club all sold out of the Nexus 7 on its first day of widespread availability last Friday. At the time of writing, the 8GB version is still available for pre-order in the Play Store, and Google says it will ship in 3-5 business days.
Thanks, Quinope!
