Honestly did you expect more from Vizio ? I didn't!
From the get go when it's upcoming PC product line was publicized I said to myself this will be full of fail for the obvious reasons and did not expect fine quality hardware to emerge from the company.
1. The design seemed try hard and whilst not copying Apple's products from a geometric perspective it certainly did so from a stylistic and ideological one. This is all fine but when you are small company with little buying/streamlining power you will not be able to deliver quality hardware at a competitive price compared to the behemoth's of the industry. Not to mention the lack of experience in producing computer hardware.
2. As mentioned above little buying power and nothing more than attractive form/design conventions whilst having no real experience and technologies for producing great hardware and function. I was anticipating horrible keyboard and trackpad, because you don't just pull these technologies out of nowhere and have them working on par or better than the long established competition, especially when you are using the cheaper parts.
3. Whilst the design looked fairly good (nothing special) from an aesthetic point I question the ergonomics of the keyboard and the whole setup.
Overall I absolutely did not expect any good products to come from Vizio and never even had the slightest urge to purchase them. That being said the underdog OEM to watch out for this year is Acer!!! They have produced some very fine and original designs as of recent, every bit as minimalist or more as Apple's but more futuristic. I think Acer is heading in the right direction. Sammy produces nice UltraBooks, whilst Asus packs great hardware in theirs but their ulrabooks look and feel like cheap kitchen sinks with that finish they have now.
