AMD, My personal choice for Windows 8 x86
With Windows 8 just around the corner, I've been doing some research on the possible devices I'm going to be purchasing to start my Windows 8 journey. Of all alternatives I've seen AMD (Severely overlooked) seems to be the best positioned at the moment for Windows 8 x86 on a Price/Performance basis. The reason I'm picking AMD instead of Intel is because AMD Fusion currently offers the greatest graphics throughput for the money when it comes to low power devices, much better than Intel ATOM on that front. Given that Windows 8 severely relies on GPU, not only to display graphics but also for web pages rendering, decoding image files, etc... I think AMD currently offers the best overall performance when compared to ATOM based alternatives. Looking at reviews of the iconia W500 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-ykq-6hgAw it seems to cope with Windows 8 pretty well, as opposed to ATOM based tablets that seems choppy at times http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7e2Ftv98vs&feature=related I also think AMD will be able to put 500-600 dollar Windows 8 tablets out given that they already ship the Iconia W500 at a similar price point even including an SSD drive albeit small 32 GB. All in all, I think AMD has the best bang for the buck when it comes to an Overall package, it remains to be seen how good battery life ends up been but I'll be happy with 5:00 hrs at least. What do you guys think? Do any of you have had an experience with the iconia W500 running Windows 8?, can you share?
