Slender: A veritable fear factory
The folks over at Parsec Productions have released the first beta of their upcoming title Slender, starring the Internets very own darling birthed from the pits of SomethingAwful - Slenderman. Their site is currently down due to the soaring interest in the product so I'll link some mirrors for both Windows and Mac platforms below.
The game itself is really quite simple, with your character being tasked with retrieving eight pages with knowledge on Slenderman himself. Simplicity in a game can be misleading as its common to feel that means there is a lack of depth. Here the depth is indeed as shallow as they come so far, albeit the only 'shallow' game in a long time to make me scream and stop playing.
It really is best if you go into this with no knowledge of what to expect, with curtains drawn and the volume turned up high.
A few hints from the offical 'Readme' file:
* Do not look at the enemy for too long, or you will lose.
* Your flashlight has a limited battery; turn it off from time to time to save it.
* The more you sprint, the lower your maximum stamina becomes, so sprint only when you need to.
