Music streaming app Spotify has introduced a rating feature for the desktop version of its Radio service, allowing users to respond to its automatic selections with either a "thumbs up" or a "thumbs down," influencing future choices. The feature was already available in Spotify's mobile apps for iOS and Android and had received a positive response from users.

According to a post on the official Spotify blog, likes and dislikes will now be registered and synced across desktop and mobile apps, with all up-rated tracks being stored in a personal "Liked from Radio" playlist for future perusal. Users taking advantage of the new update, which rolled out yesterday, will also be able to use the desktop app to view all stations that they've tuned in to on their phone or tablet — stations are no longer tied to the Spotify mobile app.

When Spotify launched unlimited free Radio access for US-based iOS users back in June, the move was seen as an attempt to take on apps such as Pandora, which offers a similar service — unlimited Radio for Android users followed late last month. Free features like Radio provide a gateway to Spotify's subscription services, which currently start at $4.99 per month.
