What Microsoft should have done with the Start Button!!!
I guess that it is too late for it now but I have come up with a few concepts about what Microsoft should have done with the Start Button instead of just scraped it. I have came up with a Windows 8 Start Bar (instead of "Metro Start Bar" that sounds so much better). To me I think that Microsoft could have kept the Metro UI while also giving the Desktop users a choice. This would have been a much better option instead of having two options to go to the same screen.
I understand that some people don't use the Start Button as it is something that I don't use too often myself. Microsoft should have given people a steady progression into the Metro experience instead of pushing a full screen CHANGE into people's faces. With the Start Bar you would have your recent apps/favorites, settings button, search, shutdown button, time, sound, and even a Start Screen selection all that can be scrolled from right to left for more apps. I think that this what would be a major improvement especially for people who are trying to work and don't have the time to transition to a totally different screen just to search for an app.
Now understand that this is just a rough draft of what I think the Start Button should have become along with the Start Screen. Microsoft could put this on the desktop version of Windows 8 by default instead of pushing people into full screen Start Screen mode by default.
So here it is and I hope that you like it. I would greatly appreciate all your comments and criticism because I would like to get hits out to Microsoft so that they could have a better solution than just a full screen experience of apps than a progression of steps.
How this would work is:
1. Touch the Start Button to get to the Start Bar.
2. Now the Task-bar is disabled/not if some people like it that way.
3. The first part is the Start Bar Default that would contain some of your recent apps or all of your favorites.
If it was a possibility Microsoft or developers would make Start Bar windows/transitions for apps that would show more information in the Start Bar, i.e. So touching the Office Tile would open all of the office tiles, touching the browser tile would open up frequents/favorites, or touching the calendar tile would open up an agenda.
4. There are quicker access to the Search, Settings, and the most important Shutdown button.
5. The Start Bar is scrollable so that you can show other apps that you want to favorite
Windows 8 Start Task-bar
Windows 8 Start Bar Default
Windows 8 Start Bar Office
I would appreciate all of your comments and criticism because Microsoft needs to see this bad and think about making a critical update to their UI.
ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!
