iPad Mini / Air by John Gruber
John Gruber does a very compelling study on the rumored smaller iPad. And MG Siegler does a quick showcase of what it means in terms of weight when compared to all other popular tablets / e-readers (both released and future products). It is interesting to see that the Microsoft Surface Pro is on that list on which Gruber comments in his post -
My guesstimated weight for the iPad Air sure looks light, looking at this list. Even if I overshot and the thing weighs somewhere in the 300-400 gram range, that'd still be pretty damn light. (And that Surface Pro sure seems like a brick at 903 grams.)
While i agree that the Surface is a tablet, there is one thing we need to consider about the Surface Pro. Its an Intel based PC which will run all x86 applications, also is fully functional with a keyboard and a mouse. To make it clear, its a laptop in the form of a tablet which means it should be compared with a laptop like the Macbook Air.
So jumping right to the conclusion -
Microsoft Surface Pro - 903 grams
Apple Macbook Air - 1080 grams
The Surface Pro does not look like a brick anymore.
