Gaming sound - Headphones?

I'm looking to improve my gaming set up, specifically the audio. I was considering a 5.1 set up but the room isn't really that well suited to it.

So I have been looking at a nice set of headphones. Preferably wireless. Does anyone have any experience in this field - what to look for etc?
