Windows 8's 2 main versions

I have been using Windows 8 now since the release at the //BUILD// conference a year or so ago and I think it is going to be a hit among a lot of customers. It is Microsoft's chance to really get back into the hearts of consumers.

With that said, something has been bugging me for the last few weeks. I am a little concerned with Microsoft’s lack of plan on describing the differences between Windows 8 x86/x64 (Windows NT) and Windows 8 RT. I have a feeling that to the average consumer there is no difference other than the price.

Imagine if your mom (or someone who is not very tech savvy) was to go to a retail store and purchase a Windows 8 RT device (maybe even the surface) and when she gets home she tries to install QuickBooks from the Intuit website. She is going to be quite surprised when she tries to install it. I can see this happening to even some of the less tech-savvy folks out there (the ones not on the verge forums).

Microsoft has a little over a month to figure this all out. Maybe they already have and are waiting till a week or so before Windows 8’s launch. This could be the case as there have been little-to-no advertisements yet for Windows 8. Only time will tell if Microsoft nails this one.
