Next Thunderbolt Display
What I think that specs will be for Apple's next display:
Display:
- Resolution: 5,120 by 2,880 pixels
- Color (maximum): 16.7 million
- Aspect ratio: 16:9
- Viewing angle: 178 degrees horizontal, 178 degrees vertical
- Brightness: 375 cd/m2
- Contrast ratio: 1000:1
- Response time: 12 ms
Cables:
- Built-in MagSafe 2 cable (up to 85W),
- Built-in Thunderbolt cable
- MagSafe cable adapter included
Peripheral Connections:
- Three powered USB 3.0 ports (up to 5 Gbps)
- 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45 connector)
- Two Thunderbolt ports (up to 10 Gbps)
- HDMI port
- Kensington security slot
- Audio line out
- Audio line in
- Firewire 800 port discontinued
Audio and Video:
- Built-in 1080p FaceTime HD camera
- Built-in 2.1 speaker system (49 watts)
Final thoughts
I think that the Thunderbolt Display will become a Retina display, it's really only a question of when. I could see this coming out at the end of 2013, or 2015, there's really no way to know. The only other big difference is the full HD FaceTime camera. I would love to see the front facing cameras on Macs (including this display) having the same quality as the iPhone 4S's back camera. The new audio lines are really just a convince, wouldn't be surprised if this never came. I discontinued the Firewire port simply because I've never seen anyone use it and I think that Thunderbolt takes care of it.
