Samsung's Ativ Tab tablet has just surfaced here at IFA 2012. It features a Snapdragon S4 APQ8060A processor running at 1.5GHz, a 10.1-inch HD (1366 x 768) display, USB 2.0, uHDMI, and a microSD card slot. Samsung describes it as having "complete" Windows 8 functionality, fitting it within a very thin 9.9mm profile and a 762g weight.

The Ativ Tab also runs on Windows RT and includes Microsoft's Office 2013 Home and Student Edition. Check out the pictures below and we'll be back soon with our first video hands-on. The display looks very impressive at first sight, surrounded by a neat matte bezel, which also resides under the same all-covering glass front. The back is made and patterned very much in line with the Galaxy S III / Galaxy Note II styling — which means it's plastic and too glossy for most tastes, but that doesn't make it a complete disaster. Samsung usually knows how to make these thin plastic covers last a while.

The 9.9mm thickness is impressive in the hand, it reminds me of the Galaxy Tab 7.7. Samsung's goal with the Ativ Tab has clearly been to go for extreme thinness as the defining characteristic. Looking at the bottom of the tablet, you'll notice the same dock connectors as are present on the Intel-powered Ativ device (which is quite a bit chunkier and heavier), meaning you should be able to connect both Ativs into the keyboard dock we've seen on show here today.
