Bob Mansfield retaining Senior VP role at Apple, but with no specific group under his watch
Earlier this week, Apple announced that former Senior Vice President of hardware engineering Bob Mansfield would be staying with Apple despite his previously-announced retirement. What wasn't clear from Apple's announcement was what role Mansfield would be playing going forward. That question is still largely unanswered, but we now know that he'll be retaining his title of Senior VP. Apple's leadership page now reflects the recent changes made, with Mansfield retaining the title of Senior Vice President — though he has no specific division or responsibility attached with his title, unlike all other Senior VPs at the company. As expected, Dan Riccio now holds Mansfield's previous title. Given how important Mansfield has been to Apple during its decade-long turnaround, we're not surprised to see the company hold on to him — hopefully, Apple's next major product release will give us some clues of what Mansfield is working on going forward.
