Polynauts Central (17/9 Archived)

Did anyone notice the ALT text?

Todays header image is brought to you by Cobaltios. After so many side-releases we're releasing a one-off sequel today in the form of Polynauts Central 2.

It's Monday September 17th and this is Polynauts Central 2, at Polygon on The Verge (today known as T'he Enemy').

Last night was a dark day for the Polynauts nation. Last night The Verge declared war in the Minecraft/Vergecraft server against Polygon ,and as most of you saw there was a call to arms to defend our soon to be established home. It's time for us to build Polygon City together, to defend it against the Verge and Apple factions which have emerged overnight. Already our first house has been built, then destroyed - yet we endure. Join us.

If you don't want to that's also fine because here's some other awesome Polygon things to get you through the first day of the working week.

  • For comics, manga and anime and if want a nice organised place to talk about those, then head on over to Crisis on Infinite Polygons Issue #5 for BreadKnights' all-in-one thread.
  • If you want to talk game related art - or even art in general but be sure to head over to the thread byParadox Me called The Polygon Gallery of Fine Arts and grab yourself some cheese, olives and a glass of wine.
  • If you want to talk about, or discover new music then Shinta has a thread for you simply called Music.
  • If you want to talk about any movies or television shows with fear of spoilers then go to PrinceLUDA21's Polynauts: The Movie: Episode 2 thread.
  • Zombie711 feels that snacks should have a thread. Won't somebody go talk waffles with him?

1: At war with fans: 'EVE Online's' fall and rise from infamy by Emily Gera

Lander now says the team is looking forward to the future of EVE Online, which is taking its first step forward with the release of the cross-platform console game DUST 514, described as a representation of what is possible to do with the EVE universe. DUST is the studio's upcoming console-based first-person shooter set within the EVE universe, which will allow console players to interact with those within EVE Online through political and economic actions, as well as strategic orbit-to-ground combat. DUST, he says, is one of a number of windows into the EVE world which will be made available

2: EA considers the next generation, Origin and the importance of change by Brian Crecente

As head of development for one of the largest video game companies in the world, EA's Frank Gibeau has to pick his way through a minefield of secrets when talking about unreleased, unannounced future gaming technology.

In a recent interview with Polygon, Gibeau categorically refused to discuss the successors to the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. But what he didn't say about those impending devices, and what he did say about the company's future helps to better frame the expectations gamers should have for the next generation of consoles.

1: Wonderbook Style: Halogon Community Backstab Extravaganza! by mintycrys

We're comin' at ya' with a new Halogon community playdate! As usual, we'll be playing Reach on Sunday, September 23, at 2:00 PM CST, though if enough people prefer, we can always move to Sunday evening! We'll play lots of BTB/Invasion multi-team gametypes to allow for more players, and we might even do Slayer Pro matches on various maps, like Countdown and Pinnacle, to allow to for obscene amounts of Wonderbooking. If you're interested, drop you're gamertag in here, and if you want to schedule another game for another time, like ODST or Halo 3, feel free to make requests in this thread!

2: Games that Took You by Surprise by KatanaShades

Okay. So, at Minty's advice, I picked up Gitaroo Man at my local Game Force. I honestly wasn't expecting all that much. Maybe a cool rhythm game a'la Guitar Hero, wham bam, thank you ma'am.

Boy, was I completely and totally wrong.

So my question to you is, what games have you played that have taken you by surprise?

3: What's the worst game of all time? by CounterKillerKing

Is the general consensus still Superman? Or is there a particular one that really just boils the rage inside your tiny little heart?

4: The Thread of Anime for Mature Audiences by DocSeuss

I have not been a fan of anime in the past few years. It's been, well, kinda a major disappointment. Oh, sure, I've been told that things like Kids on the Slope and Space Brothers are great--and I'll be checking them out when I get the chance--but by and large, I haven't enjoyed anime. Lines have gotten softer, characters all seem like kids, and the stories and intelligence often seem to be pretty weak compared to the awesomeness of anime from earlier years./p>

Creighton DeSimone is back in the most recent '90 Seconds on The Verge'.

Hey there, I’m from around the way, recently scooped up by a fellow commenter from another gaming site.

Lately I haven’t done much gaming, mostly Max Payne 3 and Counter Strike: GO if I have a chance to do so (rare). It’s a deflated feeling. What I am getting at here is the fact that I have been missing a real, dynamic and healthy gaming community to have my foundation.

Gaming is a passion of mine, but if I don’t really have anyone to talk to about it…does it mean anything? Personal experiences are great, but when you can express that to another person with simply a few words, or a smile and nod of the head that really drives it home.

Good to be here.

The Laughing Man (5 Recommends)

Every day there will only be one comment from the previous thread. It's decided based upon the most recommends an individual receives for their comment; should two people have the same rating then both comments will be posted.

New to the Polygon Community? Please take time to read the Community Guidelines as laid out by the editorial team here at The Verge. Particularly take note here: "Foul language: Cussing, swearing, or just plain nasty: all of the above are not cool here."
